Trekking in Oman is fast becoming a popular activity. The new trekking routes put up in 2003 help mark the paths. There are many grades and a Gulf Leisure guide will come prepared and be aware of the groups limits. The formations in the rock, the changes in colour and texture are all visible when you look at the different layers and understand how they have been distorted and changed with pressure and heat. Trekking is not just about exercise, your GL guide will make it a rich and educational experience.

The Faults, gorges and cliffs of Oman lend themselves to some spectacular days outdoors. GL has qualified mountain climbers and walking guides that are fully trained to allow you to walk or climb in the most demanding areas. Excursions will be tailored to the experience and the fitness levels of those taking part. Even in the heat of the summer, the Jebels around the Sultanate provide cool and awe – inspiring scenery to explore.

Oman has some of the best climbing spots in the world. From Alpine style big walls to the technical sports routes, 500 metre multi - pitches to 20 mtrs technical climbs, all are available at differing levels.

Oman in A Nutshell

Duration: 3 days / 2 nights Included: All Inclusive

The trip will concentrate on getting a feel for the culture and traditions of the local mountain people, Jebalis, & exploring the more mountainous area of Oman. The tour includes off-road travel through sand dunes, dry and wet wadis and challenging mountain tracks, camping out at night under the star filled sky. There will be the opportunity to meet the Jebalis, who are renowned for their hospitality, & walk through their idyllic villages (abandoned and working). Up to a third of each day will be spent on car travel and the remainder on exploring, photographing and enjoying the break from city life. All food, drink, camping equipment and guided tours of each area is included. All you need to provide is your own 4x4 & personal effects.

Day 1 - Arrival in Oman and Desert Camp You will be met on the main highway from Hatta/Sohar to Muscat, approx 2 ½ hrs from the border post, and led off road through camel country to a desert camp. Daylight permitting, there will be the chance to try some dune driving & exploration of the sandy environs followed by cold drinks, bbq dinner & a camp fire before retiring to bed under the stars.

Then on through picturesque villages & date plantations to the base of the Northern Hajar Mountains. Follow a winding track up the mountains with plenty of photo stops to arrive at a Jebeles village for a traditional Omani mid day meal. Continue to climb steeply off road through dramatic mountain scenery eventually reaching Camp 2 at 3500m. Plenty of time for exploring around the camp and enjoying the fresh mountain air before settling down to well earned sundowners and an evening meal. Early night for the little ones. Star gazing and entertainment for those that still have the energy.
